The most logical option would be to jump in and develop the stories as seasons seven to nine. What form would Expanse 2.0 (or Expanse season 7? take? Needless to say, Cara’s story is very important - even if it does only seem to be a confusing addition to the current arc. So huge that I can’t really go into much detail without revealing any possible spoilers. Mysteries that the shows have only touched upon, like the mysterious beings that live inside the ring gates, and are only visible to James Holden.Īnd, of course, Laconia plays a huge role in the final three books. That being said, there are still three books to adapt, and those books cover the mysteries of The Expanse universe in much greater detail. Babylon’s Ashes ended in such a way that the show can end there, offering solid conclusions to the ongoing plot without leaving any significant cliffhangers. Without spoiling what’s likely to come in the finale, it makes a little sense that The Expanse, in its current form, would end here. It’s not been completely faithful, for one reason or another, but in general the show has done a good job of condensing the first six books (and relevant novellas) and adapting them for the small screen. The Expanse has been pretty good at adapting its source material. Which is why I suspect that this isn't actually the end. In other words, The Expanse is already setting up future stories, even if the series itself is coming to an end. The writers have now set the stage for this season in terms of story and characters, weaving a dark but wonderful episode with the possibility of even more dire events unfolding as this season rolls on.Without spoiling anything, Cara does become very important later on, and these snippets of her life on Laconia are absolutely crucial to that. Amos (Wes Chatham), still on Earth, makes a side trip after his personal business is concluded, visiting a familiar face in horrible surroundings.Įvents unfold before the viewers’ eyes that are truly horrible, then the ripple effect of said events makes the circumstance seem even worse, which is no small feat. Bobbie (Frankie Adams) and Alex (Cas Anvar) continue to dig deeper into the black market on Mars, finding things that are truly disturbing. Looking back on this episode, it really is a dark and twisted journey. There is a lot of resentment and anger there, something that may never go away. The consequences of the failed plan are far-reaching, and, as always, the protomolecule is front and center. In fact, if you could map out how to have a plan go so horribly wrong in every detail, this was perfect. Watching someone who is used to having power and control feel so lost and powerless was tough to watch, yet her strength, as she shows, is something far too many underestimate. The Belters have long been taken for granted and suppressed by both Earth and Mars. If you didn’t think Marco was a threat before, this will change your view, and quickly. With “Gaugamela,” the series shifts gears quickly, throwing everything into chaos with a high-paced, high energy, and for some, deadly episode.Īt the end of episode three, we watched in horror as a stealth tech asteroid hit Earth. ![]() The first three episodes of The Expanse dropped last week, setting up the season with some nice intrigue and very high stakes, all the while giving us some great backstory on certain characters.
